Vigor’s Tacoma Yard Delivers Breasting Barges to Foss
Fabrication teams at Vigor Industrial’s Tacoma, Wash. shipyard have delivered three 60’ x 24’ x 15.5’ breasting barges to Foss Maritime. The barge system will be used to moor Shell’s drill rigs at Terminal 5 in Seattle, Wash. where the company is scheduled to ready its fleet for Arctic drilling this summer. The project was completed in less than two months and created 60 family wage jobs for the Tacoma yard and its subcontractors.

Arctic Offshore Rig Gets USCG Escort
U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) crews escorted heavy lift ship Blue Marlin as it toted a controversial 38,000-metric-ton drilling rig into Port Angeles, Wash., Friday. Blue Marlin, Dockwise’s 674-foot semi-submersible heavy lift ship, was escorted into its anchorage location in Port Angeles while carrying Polar Pioneer, a column-stabilized offshore drilling rig expected to be a key piece in Arctic operations for Royal Dutch Shell.
Caterpillar Acquires ESRG Technologies
Caterpillar Marine has completed the acquisition of ESRG Technologies Group, LLC, a vessel monitoring and data analytics company in the marine industry. The acquisition includes ESRG’s software suite for the remote monitoring and diagnostics of more than 65 on-board systems as well as the expertise to provide meaningful recommendations to ship owners to help increase efficiency, reduce downtime on their vessels and assist shipyards in reducing warranty expenses.
Hempel CEO Jullien Plans Retirement
Pierre-Yves Jullien, CEO of Hempel A/S since 2005, has decided to retire after nearly 40 years in the Group. He will step down from his role as CEO on March 31, 2016 at the latest. Hempel’s board of directors has initiated a search for a new CEO of the group. Jullien has been elected to the board of the Hempel Foundation (the sole owner of Hempel A/S), to replace John Schwartzbach, who has reached the age limit for board members.
Naval Authorities Rely on OSE Separators from GEA
The trend of modernizing ships and fitting them with more efficient separator systems, which has been noticeable since 2014 particularly in Europe and North America, has continued seamlessly into the first quarter of 2015, GEA reported. More than 50 OSE separators from GEA from the Oelde site have been ordered since the start of the year for ship modernizations for U.S. and Canadian naval authorities alone.
