Women Navy Divers Meet Same Standards as Men

On March 14, 1975, 22-year-old Californian woman Donna Tobias graduated from the US Navy Second Class Dive School to become the first woman deepsea diver in the Navy.Marking the 50th anniversary of women’s integration into the US Navy Diving community, the Association of Women Navy Divers highlights that over 300 women have now graduated from the Navy’s schools.The society recounts that this happened during a period of immense change brought about by the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment through Congress in 1972. ABS Acquires MetaSHIP Maritime Training Assets

In a deal to deliver immersive training at scale to the maritime industry, ABS has signed an agreement to purchase the MetaSHIP intellectual property and related vessel simulator software assets from Orka Informatics as part of the strategic growth plan for ABS Training Solutions.The acquisition, subject to Turkish regulatory approval, will allow ABS to expand its digital training program, which can be delivered on board, in port or at home, as well as in a global network of high-tech ABS learning centers in Qatar, Greece and Singapore.

Scotland Opens $13M Energy Transition Skills Hub in Aberdeen

Scotland’s largest Energy Transition Skills Hub, a $13.3 million facility featuring a welding academy, advanced manufacturing zone and digital training suites, was officially opened in Aberdeen on Monday by First Minister John Swinney.The Hub is the anchor project of the Skills Campus in the city’s Energy Transition Zone and will support 1,000 people into jobs focused on energy transition in its first five years.The facility has been handed over from ETZ Ltd, which led its delivery, to North East Scotland College (NESCol).
