Marinette Marine Unaffected By Navy Cancellation

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

April 16, 2007

According to WLUC, Marinette Marine will not be affected by the Navy to cancel a shipbuilding contract with Lockheed-Martin. The second of two Littoral Combat Ships was to be built in Louisiana, but because the first ship being built in Marinette is so far over-budget, the Navy has canceled the order. The shipbuilding in Marinette will continue as scheduled. The ship is estimated to be more than $100m over-budget, but US Congressman Steve Kagen of Wisconsin says the builders aren't at fault.
